Seven Miners Killed in Plateau Mining Pit Collapse

On Wednesday evening at approximately 7pm, a mining pit collapsed in a Plateau community, resulting in the deaths of seven miners and injuries to several others. Eyewitness Albert Danlami described the incident as devastating, noting that the miners were trapped underground following the collapse.

This prompted immediate rescue efforts from residents and fellow miners, although the victims were ultimately found dead. Rwang Tengwong, the Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM), confirmed the fatalities and stated that the miners were present at the site when the pit collapsed.

The incident has caused significant panic within the community, as many rushed to the mining site. The report indicates that collapses of mining pits have previously resulted in numerous fatalities in various mining communities across Barkin Ladi, Jos South, Riyom, and other local government areas (LGAs).
