Oyo State Government Denies Ownership of Pakiotan Hospital

The Oyo State Government has stated that it neither constructed nor took over the management of the 80-bed Mother and Child Specialist Hospital located in Pakiotan, Ogbomoso North Local Government Area. This clarification was made by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, in response to reports claiming the facility was abandoned by the state government.
Oyelade explained that the hospital was a Federal Government project facilitated by the former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Chief Sunday Dare, and inaugurated on 27 May 2023. He emphasized that the hospital was handed over to the Federal Ministry of Health through the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, and was never transferred to the Oyo State Government.
Consequently, the state government cannot be held accountable for the hospital's non-utilization or management decisions. Oyelade acknowledged the facility's importance to local residents and expressed the state government's capability to effectively utilize such infrastructure if it were under its control.
He reiterated that the ownership and operational responsibilities lie with the relevant Federal Government authorities.
