AAUA Students Protest 68-Day Strike Impacting Education

On Thursday, students of Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, protested against a 68-day strike that has paralyzed academic activities. The students expressed their frustration over the university's closure, which has disrupted their academic programs and left many, especially graduating students, uncertain about their futures.

They blocked the main entrance of the university along the Owo-Ikare Expressway, carrying placards with messages demanding action from the Ondo State Government and other stakeholders to resolve the ongoing dispute with the striking unions. Folagbade Ayoola, President of the Students’ Union Government, stated that students could no longer remain silent as they face financial obligations while staff salaries remain unpaid.

He noted that the Academic Staff Union of Universities had presented demands to the government, but the issues remain unresolved, leading to the indefinite strike. Oluwatimileyin Amos, the Students’ Union General Secretary, emphasized the toll the prolonged closure has taken on students, particularly those affected by graduation delays.
