Abdulwahab Loses to Batte at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Team Nigeria's boxing campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games began unfavorably as Abdulramon Abdulwahab faced a unanimous points defeat against Uganda's Nuhu Batte in the Men's 65kg Round of 32 at SEC Hall 5. Throughout the three-round contest, Abdulwahab struggled to break down the experienced Batte, who showcased superior ring management and cleaner combinations.

All five judges scored the bout in favor of Batte, resulting in a 5-0 unanimous decision victory that ended Abdulwahab's campaign early. Following the match, Abdulwahab was visibly upset and in tears, but he received consolation from the Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, who encouraged him to return to training and improve his scoring techniques in amateur boxing.

Despite this setback, there remains optimism within Team Nigeria as other boxers are set to begin their competitions in the coming days.
