Arochukwu to Honor Mary Slessor with Library Project

The traditional ruler of Arochukwu kingdom in Abia State, His Eminence Eberechukwu Oji (Eze Aro IX), announced plans to honor Scottish missionary Mary Slessor with a library project. This initiative is part of the celebrations for his second anniversary as king.

The announcement was made by Azubike Okoro, chairman of the anniversary publicity team. The Mary Slessor Library Project will be formally launched on July 23, recognizing Slessor's significant contributions to evangelism, education, and social transformation in the kingdom.

The celebrations will commence with an open-air crusade and medical outreach. Additionally, a coronation anniversary lecture and dinner will take place that evening, featuring a review of a lecture titled “Reclaiming African Civilisational Voices: The Arochukwu Renaissance and the Future of Indigenous Knowledge in a Global Information Age,” which Eze Aro IX delivered at the University of California, Berkeley, in May 2026, with contributions from scholars including Mazi Ernie Onwumere, Dr.

Oji Ogbonnaya Oji, and Dr. Azubike Okoro.
