Abia Court Sentences Two Men to 40 Years for Defilement

An Abia State court has sentenced two men for child defilement, marking a significant step in the state's campaign against sexual and gender-based violence. A 35-year-old man from Akwa Ibom State received a 10-year prison sentence for defiling a five-year-old girl, while a 32-year-old man was sentenced to 30 years for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Okei Kanu, who disclosed the sentences on Tuesday, emphasized the importance of these convictions as part of the administration's zero-tolerance policy towards sexual offenses. Governor Alex Otti's administration is committed to protecting vulnerable residents and ensuring justice for survivors of sexual violence.

The Abia State Government has also been active in providing medical and psychosocial support to survivors through the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Aba. The state continues to implement its social protection framework to assist vulnerable residents requiring urgent medical and humanitarian aid.
