Abia State Launches Task Force to Combat Human Trafficking

On a significant date, Abia State inaugurated a task force against human trafficking, with Attorney General Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN, serving as the chairman. The initiative, described by Governor Alex Otti as a decisive step to eliminate human trafficking and uphold human dignity, aims to protect vulnerable citizens from this growing menace.

The task force's establishment is part of a strategic effort to strengthen collective resolve to prevent and combat human trafficking within the state. Governor Otti highlighted the links between trafficking networks and organized crime, including drug trafficking and transnational criminal syndicates, and called for enforcement, rehabilitation, and reintegration approaches to tackle the issue.

Director General of NAPTIP, Binta Adamu Bello, noted that Abia is the 25th state in Nigeria to establish a NAPTIP-supported task force against this global threat. Uwanna expressed optimism that the initiative would prevent the state from becoming a haven for human trafficking.
