Abia State Governor Otti Signs GBVS Bill into Law

On February 18, 2026, Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti signed the GBVS Bill into law, which establishes the Abia State Centre for the Rehabilitation of Survivors of Rape and Gender-Based Violence.

The bill received expedited passage in the Abia State House of Assembly, thanks to the efforts of various stakeholders, including the governor's wife, Priscilla Chidinma Otti, who initiated the bill. During the signing ceremony, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of addressing issues such as rape, child abuse, and human trafficking, which he stated are not part of Igbo culture.

He noted that the center in Aba will serve as a referral point for sexual assault victims. The bill aims to provide necessary rehabilitation for victims and create employment opportunities to engage the youth positively.

Emmanuel Emeruwa, and other officials were present at the event, highlighting the collaborative effort in passing the bill.
