Abia State Nears Resolution of JUSUN Strike Issues

Abia State's government reported significant progress in negotiations to resolve the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN). Onyebuchi Ememanka, Director General of the Abia State Strategic Communication Bureau, disclosed that discussions with JUSUN are nearing conclusion, addressing key issues such as leave allowances and pension verification for judicial staff.

The government clarified that no pensions would be paid without verification of retired judicial workers. Ememanka also addressed concerns regarding financial autonomy, stating that funds for the judiciary are disbursed based on the state budget.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) was criticized for its position, which was described as not reflecting the current realities of the situation. Ememanka emphasized that the government is committed to resolving the strike and that JUSUN has accepted the government's proposals regarding leave allowances.

The strike was initiated due to alleged non-payment of leave allowances to JUSUN members.
