Abia State to Recruit More Health Workers Amid Reforms

The Abia State Government, led by Governor Alex Otti, announced plans to recruit additional health personnel into the state Ministry of Health. Okey Kanu, the state Commissioner for Information, stated that the recruitment would target medical officers, dental officers, and consultants for both full-time and part-time positions.

This recruitment phase is part of ongoing reforms, with 742 medical personnel already hired. Abia has received international recognition for healthcare affordability and quality, ranking first in affordability and among the top three in quality healthcare delivery, according to a report by Philips Consulting and SBI.

The Ministry of Health has also introduced a digital application, “CYTrack,” to monitor high-risk and teenage pregnancies, aiming to reduce maternal and child mortality. Additionally, the state has functionalized 151 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and increased health insurance enrollment from 233,000 to 237,000.

No outbreaks of significant diseases have been reported during this period.
