Abia State's Strategic Focus on Grassroots Sports Development

Obilor Ananaba, the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in Abia State, outlined the state's strategic approach to sports development over the past three years during a stakeholders meeting held in Umuahia. He emphasized the importance of grassroots talent discovery and athlete development, stating that sustainable sports development cannot be achieved overnight.

Ananaba noted that the administration is committed to building a solid foundation through consistent investment and innovative ideas, creating opportunities for young people to excel in various sports disciplines. He highlighted the government's support for grassroots programs and the need for collaboration among stakeholders to advance sports development in Abia.

The meeting also reviewed progress made, addressed existing challenges, and set priorities for future growth. Ananaba mentioned that Abia State will host the South East Boxing Championship, with athletes already arriving for the competition, which is set to commence on Wednesday.
