Ogun Governor Advocates Tree Planting for Sustainability

During the 2026 Ogun Tree Planting Day, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Noimot Salako-Oyedele, stressed that tree planting is a collective responsibility essential for environmental protection and ecosystem restoration. The event, themed “Root for the Future: Plant a Tree, Heal the Earth,” took place at Orange Valley Estate, Abeokuta.

Abiodun noted the increasing effects of climate change, including rising temperatures and biodiversity loss, and commended President Bola Tinubu's administration for prioritizing environmental sustainability through initiatives like the Nigeria Energy Transition Plan. He affirmed Ogun State's commitment to afforestation, renewable energy, and improved waste management.

Abiodun praised the annual tree-planting program for evolving into a statewide movement involving various stakeholders. Ogun State Head of Service Olanrewaju Iskeel Saka urged all citizens to integrate tree planting into their daily lives, while Commissioner for Forestry Taiwo Oludotun reported the revival of six moribund forest reserves under Abiodun's administration.
