Abuja Agent Arrested for N288m Estate Fraud by EFCC

Hajia Adama Adamu, an Abuja-based housing agent, was apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for suspected involvement in a N288 million estate fraud. The arrest occurred on Wednesday, following a petition from Alhaji Tanko Yawal, who alleged that Adamu obtained the money under the pretext of facilitating the purchase of a property located at 31 Hail Selassi Street, Asokoro, Abuja.

The EFCC disclosed that Adamu failed to provide valid documentation for the property after receiving the funds, which raised suspicions. Consequently, Yawal filed a formal complaint with the EFCC, prompting the investigation.

The agency has intensified its enforcement against real estate scams, particularly in major cities like Abuja, warning the public to verify property ownership documents before making payments.
