GAGAP Distributes Sanitary Pads to Female Students

The GAGAP, in partnership with the African Immigrant Resource Center, distributed menstrual hygiene products, specifically sanitary pads, to female students in selected schools across Abuja and Nasarawa State. This initiative, part of a broader effort to tackle period poverty, aims to improve menstrual hygiene and support girls' health education.
Mr. Chimezi Oji Kalu, representing GAGAP, noted that the program coincided with the 2026 World Menstrual Hygiene Day celebrations.
The outreach targeted underserved communities, with 1,400 girls in Abuja and Nasarawa State receiving sanitary pads in May alone. Additionally, 300 girls benefited from similar interventions in Abia, while 5,000 girls and women received pads in Imo, 500 in Lagos, and 1,200 in Rivers.
However, inadequate funding was identified as a significant challenge affecting the sustainability and expansion of menstrual hygiene programs across the country. Mr.
Angela Igboanugo emphasized the importance of educating girls on menstrual hygiene management and maintaining proper hygiene during menstruation.
