ACReSAL Secures World Bank Financing for Community Projects

The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL) is set to utilize proposed additional financing from the World Bank to enhance community-impact projects across Nigeria. Dr. Joy Agene, the Project Task Team Leader, announced this during the Hybrid Additional Financing Pre-Appraisal Mission at the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Conference Centre in Bauchi State.

The additional financing aims to scale up the project's impact without altering its existing design, as the project has successfully contributed to a 41% increase in farmers' incomes, with hopes to exceed 50% with the new funds. The financing will focus on community-level activities and expanding the project’s reach beyond the over one million hectares already reclaimed.

The World Bank is reviewing Nigeria's request for $300 million in additional financing, which follows a midterm review indicating that some projects might not be completed with the initially allocated funds. Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, the Bauchi State Coordinator of ACReSAL, confirmed the necessity for this additional financing.
