ADC Demands Arrest of Kuje Council Chairman Over Comments

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has demanded the arrest of Danjuma Shekwolo, the Kuje Area Council Chairman, after he made a controversial statement suggesting that residents must support the All Progressives Congress (APC) or leave the Federal Capital Territory council. The ADC condemned his remarks as a threat to residents' rights and linked them to President Bola Tinubu’s comment that “all is fair in politics.” In a video, Shekwolo stated, “I have said in my area council, it’s either you’re doing APC or leave the area council.” He later clarified that his comments were made during a meeting with APC youths and were not an official policy.

Despite his clarification, the ADC, through its National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi, insisted that his original statement constituted a threat of forced displacement and violated constitutional rights. The ADC urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute Shekwolo, emphasizing that the 1999 Constitution guarantees freedom of association and protection from discrimination based on political opinion.
