ActionAid Nigeria Condemns Kuje Chairman's Remarks

ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) condemned the remarks made by Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, who told residents they must support the All Progressives Congress (APC) or leave the area. Dr Andrew Mamedu, the Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, stated that such comments are incompatible with democratic governance and the responsibilities of an elected official.

He emphasized that a council chairman is responsible for all residents, regardless of their political affiliations. Dr Mamedu expressed concern over the implications of Shekwolo's statement, suggesting it could intimidate citizens who support other parties.

He drew parallels to similar remarks made by political figures, stressing the need for consistency in the enforcement of laws against political intimidation. AAN also referenced a recent incident involving Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who faced scrutiny for allegedly inciting violence against opposition members.

The organization reiterated that violent political rhetoric should not be tolerated, regardless of the source.
