ActionAid Nigeria Urges Action on Rising Petrol Prices

ActionAid Nigeria, through its Country Director Andrew Mamedu, has expressed alarm over the recent increase in petrol prices in Nigeria, which are currently selling between N1,300 and N1,400 per liter. This rise in fuel costs is exacerbating economic hardships for Nigerians, particularly in light of ongoing global crises and conflicts, including tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.

The organization criticizes the federal government's lack of a coordinated response to cushion the effects of these price hikes on citizens. ActionAid Nigeria calls for collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to deploy an urgent coordinated emergency response.

This includes implementing targeted cash transfers for low-income households, reintroducing fuel subsidies for petrol and diesel, and establishing a mechanism for stabilizing fuel prices. The organization emphasizes the need for transparency in the allocation of oil wealth to protect citizens from further economic harm.
