ActionAid Nigeria Calls for Peaceful Enugu LG Elections

ActionAid Nigeria has called on electoral authorities, security agencies, political parties, and voters to ensure transparency, neutrality, and peaceful participation in the upcoming Local Government Area (LGA) elections in Enugu State. Dr Andrew Mamedu, the Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, stated that observers have been deployed across the state in collaboration with the South Saharan Development Organisation and the Justice Development and Peace Commission to monitor the elections.

He highlighted the significance of these elections as the first statewide polls ahead of the 2027 general elections, aimed at strengthening public confidence in the electoral process. Mamedu expressed concerns about security issues, particularly in rural areas, and noted that the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission reported 90 percent operational readiness.

He urged political parties to promote non-violence and called on the Nigeria Police and security agencies to act impartially. Mamedu also emphasized the need for timely public communication regarding election logistics and security measures.
