Babachir Lawal Threatens Legal Action Over ADC Candidate Change

Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, announced plans to take legal action against the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, regarding the alleged unlawful substitution of the party's 2027 governorship candidate in Adamawa State. Lawal claims that Umar Suleiman, who he asserts won the ADC primary, was replaced by Tukur Moddibo, which he argues violates the Electoral Act 2026, the ADC Constitution, and the party's primary election guidelines.

He stated that this substitution would be challenged in court, asserting that Atiku's actions demonstrate a contempt for the rule of law. Lawal described Suleiman as a Kilba Muslim from Hong Local Government Area, who was expected to be the party's candidate, while Moddibo is a Fulani Muslim from Fufore Local Government Area.

Lawal accused the ADC leadership of prioritizing Atiku's interests over fairness and claimed that this move could jeopardize the ADC's chances against the ruling All Progressives Congress in the upcoming election.
