Babachir Lawal and Senator Aisha Clash Over NDC Leadership

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is facing an escalating crisis in the North East, marked by a clash between Babachir Lawal, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Senator Aisha, the party's governorship candidate in Adamawa State. Lawal responded to reports of protests from six NDC governorship candidates against his membership and leadership role in the North East, alleging that a female aspirant is orchestrating the dissent.

He claimed that two candidates, Professor Mohammed Sani Yahaya and Dr Babayo Ardo, distanced themselves from the protest, asserting their names were used without consent. Lawal argued that his entry into the NDC threatens those aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

He criticized Aisha for allegedly controlling legislative candidate nominations for the 2027 elections and noted a lack of NDC activity during his recent visit to Adamawa. In response, Aisha's campaign organization condemned Lawal's remarks as erratic and self-serving, emphasizing the importance of unity among party candidates.
