ADC Candidate Bejide Promises Pension Reform for Ekiti

Dare Bejide, the governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has pledged to implement a comprehensive pension reform agenda for retirees in Ekiti State, modeled after the Canadian welfare framework. Speaking in Ado Ekiti, he assured that if elected, he would end the prolonged hardships faced by pensioners, ensuring prompt payment of pension gratuities.

Bejide emphasized that pension payments should not be subject to political discretion and outlined measures to restore the dignity of retired civil servants. He referenced his experience as a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, highlighting the effectiveness of Canada’s pension support structures, including the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security.

Bejide committed to establishing a transparent and equitable pension payment system, aiming to eliminate favoritism and ensure justice for retirees. He noted the importance of addressing the backlog of pension gratuities owed to Ekiti pensioners, which date back to the old Ondo State period, despite receiving less than N3 billion in monthly allocations.
