Court Adjourns ADC Leadership Tussle to May 19, 2026

The Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto has adjourned a suit concerning the leadership tussle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to May 19, 2026. The case was filed by Alhaji Umar Faruku against the state executive committee of the ADC.

The presiding judge, Justice Ahmad Gama Mahmud, granted the request brought forth by the plaintiff's lead counsel, Barrister Mathew Burkaa SAN, who argued that the leadership was being hijacked by the second and third defendants, who allegedly claimed the positions of chairman and secretary of the Sokoto state chapter. The plaintiff's counsel moved a motion requesting the court to abridge the time for the defendants to file their defense, aiming to ensure the case is heard and concluded before the ADC primary elections scheduled for May 21, 2026.

The court has adjourned the matter to May 19, 2026, to hear the substantive suit and further motions.
