ADC Engages NDC Amid Leadership Crisis Ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is currently experiencing a significant leadership crisis, with former Deputy National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gomb contesting the legitimacy of the current leadership led by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. Gomb has filed a court case challenging the leadership arrangement, claiming his resignation was forged. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has acknowledged his resignation notification submitted on July 29, 2025. Amidst these disputes, senior ADC figures have initiated exploratory talks with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a potential fallback platform for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The discussions have reportedly reached an advanced stage, although no official decision has been announced. NDC leader Seriake Dickson has publicly warned that the ongoing crisis could weaken opposition parties and threaten Nigeria's democratic system. The ADC's National Public Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to exploit the situation to weaken opposition platforms.
