ADC Holds Tinubu Responsible for El-Rufai's Safety

Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, warned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be held personally responsible if anything were to happen to former governor Nasir el-Rufai while in custody. Abdullahi alleged that el-Rufai's detention is politically motivated, aimed at preventing him from participating in the 2027 general election.

He emphasized that the situation is not merely a legal issue but a political maneuver to weaken the opposition. Abdullahi recalled el-Rufai's significant role in rallying northern support for Tinubu's presidential bid in 2023, questioning the change in circumstances leading to el-Rufai's current detention.

He expressed concern over el-Rufai's deteriorating health and urged the government to grant him bail. Abdullahi stated that if the ADC comes to power after the next election, they would investigate the circumstances surrounding el-Rufai's detention.
