Clash Over Arrest of Accord Party Candidate in Osun

On Saturday, the Imole Campaign Council and the Osun State Police Command disagreed over the arrest of Popoola Alaba, the Accord Party candidate for Ijesa South House of Representatives. The council, led by Bamidele Salam, demanded Alaba's immediate release, alleging he was abducted by police officers under the command of Wemimo, associated with Senator Francis Fadahunsi.

Alaba was reportedly arrested while meeting with party canvassers and taken to the Osun State Police Command headquarters in Osogbo. The council accused Fadahunsi of masterminding the arrest to suppress Accord Party leaders before elections.

They also claimed police assaulted party members and highlighted the recent murder of a party member, Yomi Akanji, by suspected political thugs. In contrast, Police Public Relations Officer Abiodun Ojelabi stated that Alaba's arrest stemmed from a petition regarding illegal mining and that Alaba and others attacked police operatives during the arrest attempt.

Sam Segun-Progress, Fadahunsi's media adviser, dismissed the allegations against the senator.
