Six Nations Advance to AFCON 2027 Group Stage Qualifiers

Six nations have successfully advanced to the group stage qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 following the preliminary round matches held on Tuesday. Burundi showcased a dominant performance, defeating Chad 4-0, resulting in an 8-0 aggregate victory.

Ethiopia edged out São Tomé and Príncipe with a 1-0 win in the second leg, concluding with a 4-0 aggregate score. Somalia secured its place through a tense penalty shootout, winning 4-2 against Mauritius after a goalless second leg.

Eritrea progressed with a 2-1 win over Eswatini, sealing a 4-1 aggregate victory. These teams, alongside Lesotho and South Sudan, who previously advanced after defeating Seychelles 2-1 on aggregate and Djibouti 4-1 respectively, will compete in the group stage qualifiers.

The AFCON 2027 tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, with the host nations automatically qualifying for the event.
