Afenifere's Fapounda: Money Will Drive 2027 Election

Dr. Akin Fapounda, the Director of Research at Afenifere, stated that the 2027 presidential election's outcome will largely depend on political power and financial influence.

In an interview, he claimed that the 31 governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) could potentially utilize four months of Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations to influence election results. Fapounda noted that voters might be offered between N20,000 and N50,000, significantly higher than the commonly reported N5,000, to secure victory.

He emphasized that the APC is prepared to engage in a "war" to ensure electoral success, while also discussing Afenifere's proposal for restructuring and the creation of a Western Nigeria Nation Assembly. This proposal, according to Fapounda, would involve voluntary participation and a referendum, aiming to ensure fair and open restructuring without leading to anarchy in Yoruba land, which encompasses six states including Kogi and Kwara.
