Ahanor Considers Italy Over Nigeria for International Play

Ahanor, an 18-year-old central defender, is contemplating representing Italy over Nigeria at the senior international level. He has had an impressive season with Atalanta, making 28 appearances and contributing to a goal since joining the club from Genoa in a reported £16 million deal with an additional £4 million potential bonus.

Ahanor received his first call-up to the Italian U-21 squad for upcoming friendlies against North Macedonia and Sweden. In his first press conference with the Italian camp, he expressed excitement about the opportunity to wear the Italian jersey, highlighting the significance of representing a country.

Ahanor, who was born in Italy to Nigerian parents, became eligible to represent Italy after registering following his 18th birthday on February 18. Although he was previously unable to be selected due to the absence of an Italian passport, this issue has been resolved.

The Nigerian national team reportedly attempted to convince him to commit to representing Nigeria.
