Genoa's Jeff Ekhator Eyes Nigeria National Team Switch

Jeff Ekhator, a 19-year-old forward born in Genoa to Nigerian parents, has hinted at a potential switch to represent Nigeria at the senior level, despite his current involvement with Italy's youth teams. Ekhator, who has progressed through Italy's youth ranks, has played for the U-19 and U-20 teams, scoring three goals in 11 appearances for the U-19 side and two goals in six games for the U-20 team.

He acknowledges his Nigerian heritage and expresses a desire to connect with Nigeria, stating that his parents speak both Italian and Nigerian languages. Ekhator made his professional debut in August 2024 and has since established himself at the club level, with a Serie A debut following a Coppa Italia win.

He has not yet made a competitive senior appearance for Italy, leaving the door open for Nigeria to secure his services. His comments have intensified interest from the Nigeria Football Federation as they look to strengthen their attacking options with emerging dual-nationality talent.
