Aisha Babangida: Empowering Women Through Education

Aisha Babangida, the eldest daughter of former military president Ibrahim Babangida and the late Maryam Babangida, has committed herself to social causes since 2002 when she founded the Tasnim Foundation, which provides academic scholarships to underprivileged girls and builds rural schools. She serves as the chairperson of the Better Life Program for African Rural Women (BLPARW), managing 250 health, education, and agriculture projects across Africa.

In April 2016, she established EGWAFIN Microfinance Bank, a financial institution aimed at providing microloans to female traders and small-scale farmers without requiring collateral. In 2018, she launched the Women Enterprise Alliance, which has supported 4,700 businesses across 36 Nigerian states.

Her efforts earned her a gold medal at the Cran Montana Forum in Brussels in 2019. In December 2024, she plans to spearhead a ₦5 million educational grant through BLPARW to deliver critical learning materials directly to orphans and vulnerable children in Abuja.
