Ondo State Governor Aiyedatiwa Signs New Power Law

Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has assented to the Ondo State Electric Power Sector (Amendment) Law, 2026, which creates a robust legal and regulatory framework for electricity generation, transmission, and distribution in the state. The law establishes the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Commission to oversee tariffs, licenses, investments, mini-grids, and renewable energy activities.

It also introduces the State Independent System Operator and State Market Operator to foster a competitive electricity market. Key provisions include compulsory metering, protection of community-funded infrastructure, and penalties for sabotage of power facilities.

Additionally, the Equipment Standards and Competence Certification Agency will regulate electrical equipment and ensure compliance with professional standards. The legislation aims to attract private investment, expand electricity access, and promote renewable energy, thereby supporting industrialization and economic development in Ondo State.

The government emphasizes that the new framework will enhance investor confidence and improve the reliability of power supply.
