Akpabio Pitches Tinubu Re-election to Northern Youths, Defends Economic Reforms

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has commenced efforts to build Northern youth support for President Bola Tinubu's 2027 presidential bid. At a Saturday meeting in Abuja with representatives of the Northern Ethnic Groups Assembly, Akpabio defended the administration's approach to economic transformation and pressed for continued backing of its policy direction.

Akpabio described the most disputed steps taken by the Tinubu administration—subsidy elimination and foreign exchange market adjustments—as essential fixes needed in Nigeria's economy. Though these initiatives have inflicted near-term pain on residents, he maintained they represent unavoidable remedies for deeply rooted structural economic difficulties.

According to his remarks, early setbacks from these measures are transitioning toward tangible stabilization results. The Senate President pushed back against treating reforms as disconnected from real-world outcomes.

He instead characterized them as tangible measures meant to rebuild Nigeria's economic base. Akpabio appealed to Northern youth to comprehend the administration's rationale and sustain their commitment to policy implementation rather than abandoning it midway through the transition.
