Akpabio Swears in Four New Senators After Bye-Elections

On Wednesday, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, inaugurated four newly elected senators during a plenary session. This follows the successful bye-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fill vacancies caused by the deaths and appointments of previous senators.

The newly inaugurated senators are Olaka Nwogu from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Johnson Peoples, Dayo Faduyil, and Asogwa Ikej Israel, all from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Nwogu succeeds Barinada Mpigi, who passed away on February 19, 2026, while Faduyil takes over Jimoh Ibrahim's seat after his appointment as Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Envulu Aza replaces Godiya Akwashiki, who left office in December 2025, and Israel succeeds Okechukwu Ezea, who passed away on November 18, 2025. Akpabio urged the new senators to familiarize themselves with the Senate's rules and procedures to effectively participate in legislative proceedings.
