Akpabio Swears in Four Newly Elected Senators

On Wednesday, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, administered the oath of office to four newly elected senators during a plenary session. This followed their victories in recent by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The elections were held to fill vacancies created by the deaths of former senators. The newly sworn-in senators include Olaka Nwogu from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) representing Rivers South-East, Ikechukwu Asogwa from the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Nasarawa North, Dayo Faduyile from the APC representing Ondo South, and Asogwa filling the seat left vacant by the late Okechukwu Ezea of Enugu North.

The elections took place last Saturday. Akpabio congratulated the newly elected lawmakers on their victories and urged them to prioritize national interest over partisan considerations in their duties.

He emphasized the importance of familiarizing themselves with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Senate's standing orders.
