Akwa Ibom Communities Clash Over Seaport Ownership

A conflict has erupted between communities in Akwa Ibom over the ownership of a newly completed seaport located within the territory of Eastern Obolo Local Government Area (LGA). The crisis intensified over the weekend as a ship arrived at the port, which was celebrated by residents of Ikot Abasi LGA.

However, the celebrations were short-lived as angry youths from Eastern Obolo LGA threatened officials with weapons, claiming ownership of the land. The Eastern Obolo Youth Coalition, led by Timothi Ichen and Sylvanu, warned of drastic consequences if Ikot Abasi continued to assert claims over the riverine location.

They condemned what they termed false reports regarding the seaport's location and ownership. In response, the Ukpum Et United Association, represented by Ebenez Etukakpan, dismissed these claims as baseless and a distortion of historical facts.

They asserted that the land belongs to the Ukpum Et clan and vowed to resist any attempts to undermine their rights.
