Oyo Palace Affirms Alaafin's Wife's Authority to Install Baales Amid Controversy

The Oyo Palace has addressed the controversy surrounding the installation of Baales in Oyo town, stating that Alaafin's wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, has the power to carry out such installations. The Palace's Director of Media and Public Affairs, Bode Durojay, emphasized that the process followed was in line with Oyo customs and traditions, authorizing Oyedokun Akinad as Baal.

The Palace dismissed critics, highlighting that the delegation of responsibilities to the wife of the Alaafin is a recognized tradition in Oyo chieftaincy. This move is seen as part of the core traditional functions of the royal consort.

Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, in a statement, emphasized the importance of peace, inclusivity, and grassroots development in the community. The Palace's clarification comes amidst widespread debate on the propriety of the royal consort's role in such installations.
