NIMC and Alake Partner to Combat Illegal Mining

On a recent visit to Abuja, Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, disclosed a partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) led by Dr.

Abisoye Coker-Odusote. The collaboration aims to deploy digital identity infrastructure to strengthen regulatory measures and improve transparency in Nigeria's solid minerals sector.

Alake emphasized that effective governance and security cannot be achieved without a credible identity management system. He stated that technology and data-driven digital identity systems are critical tools for regulating investments and developing the nation.

The integration of NIMC's digital identity infrastructure into the mining sector is expected to enhance the tracking of mining operations, strengthen regulatory oversight, and support efforts to eliminate illegal activities. Alake also mentioned that the recent enactment of the NIMC Act 2026 would bolster the legal framework for digital identity management, opening new opportunities for collaboration across government institutions.
