FG Enhances Digital Identity Enrollment Nationwide

The Federal Government of Nigeria is intensifying its efforts to achieve universal digital identity enrollment through a partnership between the Federal Ministry of Information and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). On Wednesday, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris received Engr.

Dr. Abisoy Coker Odusote, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, who presented a strategic plan following the enactment of the NIMC Act 2026.

The Minister emphasized that a robust national identity system is crucial for the government's financial inclusion and digital transformation goals. Currently, 136 million Nigerians are enrolled in the national identity database, representing significant progress, although over 100 million remain unregistered.

The NIMC is launching a nationwide ward-by-ward enrollment campaign to ensure inclusivity, targeting rural areas and marginalized communities. The campaign aims to ensure that every Nigerian, including women, children, and persons with disabilities, is captured in the national identity system.
