Education Minister Tunji Alausa Blocked by Protesting Workers

On September 15, 2026, workers of the Federal Ministry of Education protested by blocking the entrance to the ministry’s headquarters, preventing Minister of Education Tunji Alausa and Acting Permanent Secretary Folake Olatunji-David from entering. The protest was driven by grievances against the ministry's leadership, particularly concerning the proposed 35-year concession of King’s College, Lagos, to its Old Boys’ Association.

The unions have opposed this arrangement, which they believe undermines the institution's integrity. The protest followed a confrontation at King’s College the previous day, where workers clashed with security personnel and Old Boys’ Association members over access to the school.

The association's president, Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, stated that the Federal Executive Council approved the management transfer under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to improve the college's infrastructure, denying claims of privatization or increased school fees. He assured that teachers opting to stay under the PPP would see their salaries and allowances doubled.
