FG Orders Dismissal of Students Linked to Kidnapping

The Federal Government of Nigeria has mandated that vice-chancellors, rectors, and provosts dismiss any student found guilty of kidnapping or related crimes following a thorough investigation. This directive was issued by Minister of Education Tunji Alausa during a meeting with the governing council and management of the Federal University of Lafia in Abuja.

Alausa stressed the importance of not allowing criminal activities to take root on campuses and highlighted that institutions must work closely with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering. He noted that while Nigeria's tertiary institutions remain largely safe, recent isolated incidents involving students outside campuses necessitate stronger security measures.

Alausa also mentioned a meeting with Minister of Defence General Christopher Musa (retd.) to develop strategies for the Safe Schools Initiative. He reiterated President Bola Tinubu's directive against negotiating with kidnappers and announced government support for security projects in tertiary institutions through the 2027 TETFund intervention programme.
