MAAUN Ends Affiliation with Dr. Gwadebe Amid Harassment Claims

Maryam Abacha American University Nigeria (MAAUN) issued a statement distancing itself from Dr. NASA Gwadebe, whose affiliation with the university will conclude in May 2026.

This announcement follows reports linking him to allegations of sexual harassment. The university's registrar, Habibu Awaisu, clarified that Dr.

Gwadebe's appointment is subject to satisfactory performance and will not be renewed. MAAUN emphasized its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual harassment and abuse, offering a reward of 5 million naira for credible evidence of such misconduct by any lecturer or staff member.

The university also dismissed claims circulating online regarding two postgraduate students allegedly involved, stating that these assertions are inaccurate. MAAUN noted that it has recently graduated its first set of students, who have yet to commence their postgraduate programs, and urged the public and media to report matters accurately.
