Prof. Ibrahim A. Lawal Appointed President of MAAUN

On August 8, 2026, Prof. Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the founder of Maryam Abacha American Group of Universities, appointed Prof. Ibrahim A. Lawal as the new President of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN Maradi).

Prof. Gwarzo, who has served as the President of MAAUN Niger since its establishment 13 years ago, presented the appointment letter during a ceremony where he emphasized the transition's role in strengthening the institution and allowing others in the university community to contribute to its growth. He expressed optimism that the universities under the group could produce future leaders of Nigeria, including a president.

Prof. Gwarzo noted the challenges of establishing and managing universities but highlighted the group's success in overcoming these obstacles. He congratulated Prof. Lawal, who is a professor at both MAAUN and Bayero University, Kano, wishing him a successful tenure.

Idris Muhammad Gobir, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State and an alumnus of MAAUN Niger, attended the ceremony and described it as significant.
