FG Files 12-Count Charge Against Abuja Fertility Doctor

The Federal Government, represented by Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, filed a 12-count criminal charge against Pastor John Abebe, a fertility doctor based in Abuja, on July 21, 2026. Abebe is accused of unlawful disclosure of patient medical records, selling human embryos, and fraud, among other offenses.

He is charged alongside Joje Abebe Fertility Centre Limited and Balikis Olanike Bakare, who was added to the case after an initial three-count charge filed on January 12, 2026. The charges include criminal conspiracy and providing false information to mislead police.

Abebe allegedly sold nine out of twelve human embryos belonging to Mr. & Mrs. Adamu Hassan and defrauded them of N19 million. He is also accused of administering fake drugs that adversely affected Mrs. Manga's health.

The arraignment is scheduled for October 28, 2026. Previously, Abebe was arraigned on March 11, 2026, and granted bail.
