Edo Police Arrest Fake Doctor for Trafficking Newborn

Osaz Okungbowa, a 46-year-old man, was arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly posing as a medical doctor and delivering a trafficked newborn. The arrest followed a report from a woman named Princess, who claimed that Okungbowa was responsible for the delivery of her baby.

Investigations revealed that Okungbowa did not attend any tertiary institution for medical training and was employed at a private hospital where he managed unqualified personnel. He had been called to assist in the delivery of a pregnant woman but failed to provide proper medical care.

After the delivery, the baby was kept in an incubator and later transported to a hospital. Okungbowa insisted he did not sell the baby, but the infant was buried at an Anglican cemetery.

The baby was reportedly delivered prematurely at 35 weeks, and the mother lost consciousness during the process. The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, confirmed that Okungbowa has been charged in court following the conclusion of the investigation.
