UK-Based Nigerian to Testify in Marriage Scam Case

The Federal Capital Territory High Court in Jabi, Abuja, presided over by Justice Ademuyiwa Oyeyipo, has granted permission for Mr. Emmanuel Opeyemi Makind, a Nigerian citizen based in the United Kingdom, to testify virtually in a case concerning an alleged marriage scam.

The court has scheduled Mr. Makind's testimony for May 7, 2026.

The case involves Mr. Waliyu Aderibigb Shitta, who is accused of arranging a fraudulent marriage for Miss Dolapo Afusat Yusuf to facilitate her travel to the United States.

The Inspector General of Police filed a motion seeking the court's leave for Mr. Makind to provide evidence from the UK.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mondai Onoja informed the court that the defense did not produce the marriage certificate that allegedly facilitated Miss Yusuf's travel to the UK. Furthermore, it was noted that the Nigerian police had made a written request to the British High Commission for documents related to the case, but no response had been received yet.
