UNIOSUN Rejects Army's Response to Assault Allegations

The Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has formally rejected aspects of a statement issued by the Nigerian Army regarding allegations of sexual assault involving a military personnel member within the university community. In a statement released on Friday by the university's public relations officer, Ademola Adesoji, UNIOSUN acknowledged the Army's decision to establish a board of inquiry but expressed reservations about the Army's approach.

The university emphasized that allegations of sexual violence often discourage survivors from reporting due to trauma and intimidation. UNIOSUN reaffirmed its commitment to student welfare and safety, stating that it would not compromise student privacy or dignity.

Vice Chancellor Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooy indicated that the university would not prejudge the outcome of the investigation and would maintain a victim-centered, independent, and transparent inquiry. Additionally, UNIOSUN announced that it would commence appropriate legal proceedings to protect its integrity and the interests of its students.
