Soldiers Allegedly Assault Students at UNIOSUN Hostels

On a Tuesday, soldiers reportedly broke into hostels at the University of Osun (UNIOSUN), stripping female students and assaulting male students. Vice Chancellor Clement Adeboy confirmed the incident during a visit by journalists, describing it as unfortunate.

Ademola Adesoji, a spokesperson for the university, stated that 20 students were directly affected, with two sustaining serious injuries requiring hospitalization. Allegations include female students being stripped and indecently touched by soldiers, while male students also faced assault.

The soldiers seized 60 electronic devices, including mobile phones, during the raid. Five perpetrators have been identified and were brought to the campus, but later returned to their military base.

The Nigerian Army, under Major Yahaya Ibrahim, has initiated a comprehensive investigation into the allegations, emphasizing its commitment to accountability and discipline among its personnel. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has also called for a thorough investigation and expressed concerns over the conduct of military personnel.
