Amnesty International Condemns Kuje Chairman's Threats

Amnesty International condemned Kuje Area Council Chairman Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo after he reportedly threatened to expel residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) council who refuse to join or vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC). The organization described Shekwolo's remarks as a direct assault on freedom of association and personal liberty, asserting that no public official has the authority to condition residency on loyalty to a political party.

Amnesty International characterized his warning as an open call to violence and labeled him a danger to society. The group insisted on accountability for Shekwolo's threats against residents based on their political choices.

It urged security agencies to act promptly to prevent any forceful actions against voters in Kuje. Amnesty International emphasized that the right to political choice is a fundamental freedom that must be protected, warning that allowing such threats without consequences could embolden others to suppress political freedoms.
