Amnesty International Condemns Kuje Council Chair's Threats

Amnesty International and Yiaga Africa condemned Samuel Shekwolo, the Chairman of Kuje Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly threatening residents with eviction if they do not support or vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections. Shekwolo, elected on the APC platform in February 2026, stated in a social media video that residents must either support the APC or leave the council, citing the developmental efforts of President Bola Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Amnesty International described his comments as a call to violence and an infringement on freedom of association, urging police and security agencies to intervene. They labeled Shekwolo as “a danger to society” and warned that his threats could lead to wider consequences and risk lives.

The organization emphasized the importance of respecting residents' rights to make independent political choices.
